Preparing for a newborn photography session can feel overwhelming — especially in those early weeks at home.

At Anna Kay Photography, every newborn session is designed to be calm, unrushed, and fully guided so parents can relax while I safely and beautifully photograph their baby.

Whether you choose a swaddle newborn session or a full newborn photography experience, here’s exactly what you can expect.

A Warm, Fully Equipped Newborn Photography Studio

My newborn photography studio is intentionally kept warm and cozy to help babies stay comfortable and sleepy. Parents are encouraged to dress in layers or bring a change of clothes.

The studio includes:

A comfortable seating and relaxation area for parents
A full changing station with diapers, wipes, and unopened pacifiers
A refrigerator stocked with water and juice
A snack table with crackers, cereal bars, and chocolate
A coffee station for parents running on little sleep

Parents are welcome to participate as much or as little as they’d like — relax on the couch, sit beside me and watch, or assist as an extra set of hands during the session.

Newborn Session Options

I offer two types of newborn photography sessions, depending on your vision, timeline, and level of customization.

Swaddle Newborn Session

(Baby-Only | Approximately 1 Hour)

The swaddle session is a shorter newborn photography option focused entirely on baby.

What to expect:

Baby remains fully swaddled for the entire session
Simple, timeless poses using props such as buckets, bowls, beds, and crates
A pre-session consultation to plan color schemes or themes
All wraps, props, outfits, and accessories provided

This session is ideal for parents who want classic newborn portraits in a streamlined timeframe.

Full Newborn Photography Session

(Family + Baby | Approximately 3–3.5 Hours)

The full newborn session is a fully customized, heirloom-style experience that captures your baby and your family.

The session includes three relaxed portions:

1. Family Newborn Portraits

Soft, natural images with parents (and siblings if desired), gently guided for a flattering, stress-free experience.

2. Posed, Sleeping Newborn Portraits

Carefully posed images created once baby is settled and comfortable.

3. Styled Newborn Prop Images

Custom setups using wraps, outfits, and props selected specifically for your preferences.

A Personalized Newborn Photography Experience

Before your session, you’ll complete a newborn photography questionnaire and consultation where we discuss:

Preferred color palettes and style
Nursery décor inspiration
Sentimental or meaningful items
Themes or design elements you’d like included

All props, outfits, wraps, and accessories are provided and can be hand-selected to align with your vision.

As an added touch, full newborn sessions include a charcuterie board from The Cheese Affair or a pastry tray from a local baker, allowing parents to relax and enjoy the experience.

A Calm, Baby-Led Approach

Newborn sessions are never rushed. Time is built in for feeding, soothing, and comforting your baby as needed.

Parents are never expected to:

Pose the baby
Calm a fussy newborn alone
Worry about timing or transitions

My role is to guide the entire process safely and patiently, so you can simply enjoy this fleeting season.
